Updating Policy Documents for Nunavut’s hamlets

Fotenn has prepared Community Plan and Zoning By-law updates for numerous Hamlets in Nunavut, including Arviat, Igloolik, Kugaaruk, Grise Fiord, Taloyoak, Pangnirtung, Qikiqtarjuaq, Clyde River, Coral Harbour, Whale Cove, Baker Lake, Gjoa Haven, and Repulse Bay.

The overall objective of these projects was to prepare or update each Hamlet’s Community Plan and corresponding Zoning By-law. These documents represent the community and Council’s vision and aspirations for a 20-year growth period, and to provide the necessary tools to control and direct growth to achieve that overall vision.

In addition to these documents, Fotenn prepared colored Poster Plans for each community plan that were designed to arcticulate the 20-year vision.

These Work Plans involved travelling to individual communities to consult with a range of stakeholders, including local councils, the general public, elders, business owners, and various government bodies.
