Grand opening of Mahogany Harbour Landing

Mahogany Harbour Landing Grand Opening

August 20, 2019

On Saturday, Stuart Paterson attended the grand opening of the Mahogany Harbour Landing. This is a new public boat docking facility that the Manotick BIA and the Manotick Culture, Parks and Recreation Association have realized after many years of consultation, fundraising and hard work. The docks will allow businesses in the Village core to capitalize on tourism traffic and fulfills recreational needs in the community (canoeing, kayaking, SUPing, swimming and fishing). It is also a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the view of the harbour.

Fotenn was retained by a development proponent to facilitate the design of a multi-modal pathway linking the emerging Mahogany neighbourhood to the core of the Village of Manotick.

In working closely with representatives from the local residential, recreational and business communities, the project evolved to include a small-vessel day-dock, fishing wharf and pedestrian viewing platforms overlooking historical Mahogany Harbour.

The plan also addresses issues of traffic calming, cyclist and pedestrian safety, universal accessibility, and aesthetic continuity with the character of the Village. Early consultations with the local Conservation Authority secured their support of the project and the proposal to preserve and enhance the littoral zone of this federally regulated waterway.

Fotenn undertook consultations with stakeholder groups, offered concept and detail design services, contract documents, contract administration and secured permitting from Parks Canada and the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.
